Middle of May Update

This is Adam Malkovich speaking. It is almost the summer time and lots of things are going to take place. I have been absent from the project; I have been acting more like a supporter. I do apologize for this. In the following weeks/months, major updates will be taking place. As you all are wondering these updates vary from Music, Design, and some new stuff that I am working on. As other staff have been jam packed with life events and as new recruits join the project and as some leave we are ever so moving forward with the project. Some of the first things that will be adding is a version of WordPress as well. I will be announcing when the new updates go live the moment they do here on Facebook and the site. I personally want to also make a bigger fan base of support. we are not are big as are sister projects but we need more supporters. I will be working on this over the next few days. Title Theme Redux was done by Light_of_Aether and Lower Brinstar was done by our newest reorchestrator, DigitalGhost. You can expect to hear more of his excellent work.

We are still looking for music advisors to join the MREO Team; there are five positions available. Brief position description: listen to MREO pieces before they are posted to the website and provide feedback on how said pieces can be improved. Position requirement: must have been in band, orchestra, or choir at some point in your life. Knowledge of music theory is a plus. Blackout in Protest of SOPA

Christmas 2011 Update

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We have several things to discuss in this update.

First and foremost is the Metroid album. It seems I bit off more than I could chew when I said that we would have it done by the end of 2011. At the time it seemed like a perfectly reasonable amount of time, but then school started and consumed most of my time. I was able to make some progress on Kraid’s Lair (and you can listen to that progress below), however.

Including Kraid’s Lair, there are four songs left to be reorchestrated: Kraid’s Lair, Mother Brain, Norfair, and Ridley. After those songs are done, we still need to make sure every song meets the same level of quality. I can tell you right now that Escape, Entrance, and Brinstar will all need to be remastered. I could give another predicted completion date, but we may not meet that one either. So I’m just going to say that it’s done when it’s done. Don’t lose hope, though. We will still be releasing the songs as they are finished. Kraid’s Lair should be finished soon.

Secondly, you may have noticed a “Stop Censorship” box covering the Metroid Reorchestrated Logo. Don’t worry, MREO hasn’t been censored by the Stop Online Piracy Act…yet. This bill is still in committee in the House of Representatives and in its current form gives corporations the power to take down any website that allegedly infringes on their copyright. For example, I could post a cover of me singing U2′s “New Year’s Day” on Youtube and then Youtube could be taken down. If you live in the States and love the internet, please send your Congressman a letter expressing your concern about this bill. For more information, please click here.

Fourthly, we are now on Google+! There is a Google+ button to the right that will take you to our page.

Finally, here is my Christmas present to you: all the WIP of Kraid’s Lair to date. I wish I had an actual song to release today, but alas, my reorchestration PC is being repaired (needs new thermal paste on CPU and GPU) and I won’t have it back until Wednesday at the earliest.

October Update

Hey guys and gals! We do not have a new song for you today, mainly due to college midterms. The vast river of reorchestration quickly became a small stream since the beginning of the semester. The Metroid album may still meet its predicted completion date (end of 2011), but don’t be surprised if it slips into 2012.

When I’ve had time, I’ve been working on a couple of personal projects. One of those projects is creating a realistic and believable orchestral render of a song from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I came across the song on Zelda Reorchestrated’s forums. Here’s a link to what I have done so far: My Reorchestrations. It will be near the bottom of the page.

I’m also working on an orchestral remix of the “Calm 3″ music from Minecraft. I’m hoping to eventually submit this remix to OverClocked ReMix. Here’s the current version:

Speaking of OverClocked ReMix, I’m doing a radio show featuring music from OCReMix for my school’s radio station every Saturday from 10pm to 12am Eastern Time. To listen online, click the button in the top-right corner that says “Listen”. A .pls (playlist) file will be downloaded to your computer and can be opened with iTunes, VLC player, Winamp, foobar2000, or MediaMonkey.

I was playing around with Reaper’s (the program I use to reorchestrate) surround sound plugin a couple days ago and made a 5.1 surround sound version of my unfinished version of the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption title theme. To get the full surround sound effect, you need surround sound speakers or headphones.

Work-in-Progress Archive

Hey guys! From now on, when possible, we will be releasing our works-in-progress (wip) after we release the final version of a song. The purpose of the archive is to show how our songs have evolved over the course of the reorchestration process.

To start off the archive are the wip of Item Room and Ending Redux V2. All the wip for each song are in a .zip file as well as the final version (click the links to download). We’ll set up a dedicated page for the archive as soon as we can.

Shinesparkers recently released Harmony of a Hunter, an album celebrating Metroid’s 25th anniversary. It is absolutely fantastic! If you haven’t already, go check it out now! My favorite pieces are “Path of Ruin” by Darkesword, “Lone Star” by Pyro Paper Planes, “Frozen Utopia” by Mesmonium, and “What’s Past is Prologue” by Theophany. A preview of the album is below.

Theophany, along with contributing two tracks to Harmony of a Hunter, released his own anniversary album titled Crystal Flash. This ethereal, haunting Metroid album is a tribute to Avien, an Overclocked ReMix artist who passed away in 2004.

25th Anniversary Update

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Metroid! In celebration, we are releasing four songs: Environmental Tension from Metroid Fusion, Item Room/Bridge from Metroid, Tourian from Metroid, and Ending Redux Version 2 from Metroid. Enjoy!

We have a new staff member: Nyte Hisagi! He is joining the MREO Team as Reorchestrator and Online Activities Director.

A while ago we asked the fans which direction we should go musically. The majority of them answered: “Finish the Metroid album”.

And so we shall.

The album will most likely be completed by the end of this year. There are five songs left to be reorchestrated: Ridley, Kraid, Mother Brain, Norfair, and the Get Item theme. We will release each of these songs as soon as they are finished. Once those five are finished, we may remaster some songs so the album is as consistent as possible.

Here is one last tidbit of information regarding the Metroid album: we will be producing a high-quality physical CD of the album, most likely priced at the cost of production. More details to come.
